International Conference on Charcoal in 2012 gets thumbs up from Swiss government

The Tanzania office of Switzerland’s international development agency (SDC) gave Tuesday a shot in the arm to a proposed International Conference on Charcoal to be held in Africa in 2012.

The SDC made a significant financial commitment to support the organization of the conference.

The SDC representatives in Tanzania have identified the country’s current level of  production and consumption of charcoal as a priority area.

About 90 percent of the country’s energy needs are met using woodfuels. These figures are in keeping with average biomass consumption in sub-Saharan Africa.  The annual consumption of more than 1 million tons of charcoal results in a loss of 130,000 to 150,000 hectares of forests and the emission of about 9 million tons of CO2.

In Tanzania, on average, only one hectare of forest is replanted for every three hectares destroyed.

The recent spike in oil is sure to increase woodfuel and charcoal consumption above the current 10 percent growth rate, experts say, a situation that could potentially tip the country into a charcoal crisis.

The good news is that, with the implementation of simple technologies and policies, charcoal can be produced and consumed sustainably. The International Conference on Charcoal in 2012 will establish a roadmap for the efficient production and sustainable consumption of charcoal in the developing world.

Hello! I read your message. I the production , varios construction equipment I hawe practicet more than 15 years. I am trained and familiar with most of the world,s various technologies to be used charcoal extraction , I have publications and patents on charcoal production facilities. If you are interested in it my be willing to participate in one of the charcoal production projects, with their knowledge and great experience. I hawe personally built tree charcolal factory , the largest capacity of 3000 tonn of charcoal a year. I run training courses for the production of charcoal , to train staff. I can help to set up a small charcoal production network with a small capacity- 25-30 tonn mounthly production, witch can operate in regions with no infrasrtucture, facilities with no electricity , automation or other control devices are enironmentally friendly and simple in expluotation. Most of equipment required for the construction material is obtained on the spot ,so that local workers can be assured long-therm work and livelihood . While waiting for your answer, sincerely, Dainis Treijs, Latvija P.S. My thel nr 0037129180477, 0037122844331, e-mail frix@inbox.lv
