Ecolibrium Limited Renewable Biomass Briquette Enterprise runs its production operations in the Mukangu area, specifically Kambi Mwanza. This is approximately 1.5 kilometres from the Kakamega Forest in Western Kenya, a forest which is particularly under threat from illegal logging, slashing and burning of traditional agriculture and the unsustainable burning of charcoal.

Ecolibrium produces their briquettes by sun-drying fresh bagasse, which then undergoes carbonization before being produced via an extruder. Because numerous sugarcane firms in the neighborhood provide large masses of raw bagasse, the Company is able to support the production of clean, safe, organic eco-charcoal briquettes. Bagasse-based briquette production minimizes pollution from dumping, and reduces deforestation and land degradation.  As a result, Ecolibrium can say the use of its’ briquettes mitigates climate change impacts.  The briquettes are sold under the brand name Ecolibrium (Eco2’s) Renewable Biomass Briquettes, which is a division of Ecolibrium Company Limited, which primarily sells cookstoves, and sells solar power products under their Solibrium Limited division. 

Ecolibrium’s operation creates job opportunities for community members, spreads awareness on deforestation and climate change, and provide access to healthy and non-toxic sustainable fuel energy for cooking and heating.  Using Ecolibrium’s eco-charcoal briquettes significantly reduces indoor pollution and frees up time for women and children when they would be collecting bundles of firewood, creating significant economic impact.
