The United Briquette Producers Association of Kenya (UBPA) kicked off the year with great enthusiasm in February of this year. We are happy to report a great turnout for the UBPA annual general meeting sponsored by The Charcoal Project in Nairobi. There was a great commitment to finding ways to improve women’s health and save the environment by these dedicated entrepreneurs. The event was blessed with amazing guest speakers including Dr. Faith Wandera-Odongo, Director of Renewable Energy, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and Charlot Magayi, Founder, Mukuru Clean Stoves. Dr. Wandera discussed renewable energy policy trends in Kenya and the need for clean fuel producers to provide impact data to inform the government about the sector. Additionally, Ms. Magayi spoke about her experience as an entrepreneur and the path that led her to building a successful clean cooking business.
Fortunately, a number of UBPA’s partners were also able to share updates and their expertise. Partners in attendence included the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya, Power Up (Ashden) and the Improved Stove Association of Kenya.
Lastly, a new slate of officers was elected at meeting, with Brian Onyango moving from Interim Chairman to Elected Chairman. The new officers were as follows:

Chairperson: Brian Onyango, USAFI Green Energy Limited
Vice-Chair: Elizabeth Muthoni Ndung’u, Eyoh Alder Ventures

Treasurer: Philmatt Deacon, Pgel Green Energy Hub
