This article will continue to inspire me to work hard and help the environment especially the people in the urban/poor areas in the Philippines who are affected by this problem. I also hope that they will learn to accept charcoal briquettes as well and I hope that the government will do something about it.

The Haitian-American Association of Engineers and Scientists (HAES) is proud to support this initiative on the part of Project Gaia, and continue to facilitate the links which are bringing to reality the development of bio-ethanol as a viable energy source in Haiti which is environmentally friendly and has potentially very positive economic impacts.

I'm very happy to hear your stove is working well. I suggested you contact Envirofit directly as we do not sell any stoves ourselves. You can write: Info@envirofit.org
Good luck!

I am a briquette producer in the US. I have shipped close to 30 tons of briquettes in large a small/puck configurations to Haiti.
I flew in to see how the "tests" were going. I was not encouraged as it is difficult to use just a part a couple pucks to try and cook with in family setting. Commercially in the laundries and bakeries they would work fine.
To date it is very difficult to try and motivate from traditional methods.
AND there is the issue of moisture and storage. We are changing production to pellets for export so maybe my next endeavor will be the implementation of the more efficient stove.

Our good friend Robert Fairchild shared this other article on the same topic. It focuses on different but interesting angles. "Emissions cuts also offer quick health and crop benefits."

:), Kim,

I was quite confused when my usual google search for the cookstove world updates on your site took me to the fancily decorated "thecharcoalproject.COM" with a sitting half-eagle man on the front page! "Hmmm, what a conceptual move", I thought, trying to guess if it was the 21st century's media marketing "stand-out to be noticed" requirement that made your development oriented website transform so drastically...:)

However, the doubt was always there and I eventually had to bookmark your page to be sure that I am at the right address!
Continue your outstanding work and all the luck in 2012!
